Tank furnace
Archaeological Evidence for Glassworking, Guidelines for Recovering, Analysing and Interpreting Evidence, published by Historic England in 2018, defines a tank furnace as: ‘A furnace in which the molten glass is held in an integral tank, rather than pots. In Britain, small tank furnaces may have been used in the Roman period. Large tank furnaces were introduced in the late 19th century.’
